Does the Federal Government have the right to do anything it wishes?

The federal government consists of 3 branches, each of which provides checks and balances on the others. And, ultimately, the voters keep government from doing whatever it wants. So, no. The government cannot do whatever it wishes. For example, there are thousands of court cases finding that an action of the Executive branch violates federal statutes or the Constitution.
