How are small dogs different than other dogs? Is it owners or the dogs? How did poodles get this reputation?

I kind of have a short attention span...so...lost you there at "How did poodles get this reputation?" Poodles tend to be purebred and fancy, small and easy to lug around in a purse--showdogs, so they are a favorite breed of celebrities.
